House on the Rock/Fireside Theatre/Cave of the Mounds
August 9 - 11, 2002

We had a marvelous time on this excursion, which was over all too quickly.  The Moon Family celebrated Ernie's 80th birthday.  A huge thank you to Lloyd M. for furnishing most of these pictures!!!

Our first stop was at the Garfield Conservatory in Chicago to view Greg Chihuly's glass works of art.  Very intricate work in marvelous vivid colors.

Our first stop was to take a train ride at Jelly Belly to see how jelly beans are made.  Below is a photo of Elvis made from jelly beans.

We then proceeded on to the Holiday Inn Express in Ft. Atkinson, where we changed clothes and went on to the Fireside Dinner Theatre.  We first had a lovely dinner, then moved into the theatre to see The Sound of Music, a spectacular performance with superbly talented actors and singers.

In the morning, we hopped the motor coach for our ride to House on the Rock.  What an amazing array of collectibles!!!

Left:  Lucille in the Infinity Room
Right:  A small sampling of the many old instruments that play music mechanically
Middle:  The amazing carousel.  There are thousands and thousands of red lights on this carousel, making it very difficult to snap a good picture.  You can see the size of this carousel by the people standing in front of it.
Bottom:  Closer view of the intricacy of the animals on this carousel.  There is not one horse on the carousel.

After the House on the Rock, we went to tour the Cave of the Mounds.

When we returned to the hotel, the Moon Family invited everyone for cake and coffee for Ernie's 80th birthday.

The morning of our third day, everyone met for breakfast in the breakfast room of the Holiday Inn Express, then loaded the motor coach for home, stopping at the Mars Cheese Mart to pick up some goodies to take home.

Hi Becky and Nancy - THANK YOU both so much for your efforts to make our Dad's 80th birthday event so much fun.  I could tell that you put a lot of yourselves into it and it was very much appreciated.  You guys do a fine job and I hope that your business venture flourishes.  Also hope that you all had a good time too!!  Jan :-)
P.S.  I'll check your web site now and then to see what you have going - I
would like to do something with you guys again.
