Tunica & Cotton Farm Tour 10.15.08: I enjoyed the trip to Tunica and I thank your husband for his kindness. To me, the trip is very restful. Hope to make it again and take more trips with you. Barbara Wincek 10.16.08: Really enjoyed the Tunica trip this year (as always!). Sandy Ransom 10.17.08: The trip to Tunica was great as always. I really liked staying at Sam's Town...it was fun to do something different. Being with you and Nancy and Paul is always an adventure. The pictures brought it all back, thanks for giving us this reminder of our trip. Cannot wait till next year. Hugs, Sue (Hendricks)
Once again, we packed up and headed for the casinos in Tunica, Mississippi. We had rainy weather on the trip down, but it cleared up the remainder of the days we were there. As always, Paul is in charge of our luggage - and he does a mighty fine job of it!
Our first evening was spent at Sam's Town, our home for the next 3 nights. Below are some pictures of some of our passengers outside of Sam's Town.
The second day was spent visiting 2 of the other casinos in Tunica.
On Thursday, Susan Fernandez of the DeSoto County Tourism Bureau met us at the hotel to spend an interesting late morning and early afternoon at a cotton field in Hernando, Mississippi to learn the process of planting, growing and picking cotton.
We then moved on to the DeSoto County Museum, where a great, very informative guide walked us through the museum.
The church pictured below is the oldest church in DeSoto County.
And, yes, Jerry Lee Lewis still lives in DeSoto County in a somewhat reclusive lifestyle.
It was then time for lunch at Timbeaux's on Hernando's Town Square! A tasty, traditional Southern meal of salad, rolls, hamburger steak, mashed potatoes & gravy, turnip greens and cobbler was served.
Taking a few moments to relax and enjoy the scenery on the Town Square while Paul pulled the bus around to pick us up.
Upon returning to Tunica, we then visited Harrah's before our return to Sam's Town. It's always a sad morning when it's time to load the bus again and return home.
