Mystery Trip
August 26, 2003

After a late shaky start, we were able to get the trip on the road - a bit abbreviated.

Where did we go?  To the Indianapolis South Side Landfill and Crossroads Greenhouse.  Yes, you read that right - to the landfill.  This is a nicely run landfill who prides themselves in caring for the environment and educating people on recycling.  There were several men on this trip and we think they may have enjoyed it a bit more than a stage performance.

Nancy Traylor of the landfill and greenhouse was our step-on guide and narrator - a very knowledgeable lady who took us throughout the landfill, explaining the ongoing processes as we passed them by.  The picture of the greenhouse below is only a very small fraction of the greenhouse at the facility, which is run on the methane gas that is emitted from the landfill.  The water for misting of the plants is all taken from the ground on site.   Everyone mentioned how green and extremely healthy the plants were. Ms. Traylor told us that as we get closer to the Holidays, the greenhouse will be a sea of red poinsettias, which are sold to supermarkets, florists, department stores, etc.  We were each given a beautiful Cyclamen to take home.

After the Tour, we went to Bucca Di Beppo's, an Italian restaurant with a different flair in decor, for an afternoon meal.  Below are pictures at the restaurant in random sizes.  The loading of these pages may take a little bit of time, but we know the people on the trips enjoying viewing them.

A huge bonus to this trip was that we were all in Indianapolis when the horrible storm hit that day.
