Florida Vacation
December 21, 2010 to January 6, 2011

As many of you know, my sister Nancy and her family have permanently moved to Cape Coral, Florida.  While living in Indiana, Nancy used to accompany us on trips to help escort.

My husband, Myron, and I visited them to spend the Holidays this year and thought these photos may be of interest to some of you.

We are considering offering a Florida tour in late Spring 2012.  Please let us know if you would be interested in a Florida vacation.  Nancy and her daughter Jan would love to be our escorts!  Ironically, Jan's husband, Milford, has gotten a job as a tour bus driver.

We loaded up our car with luggage, goodies and our Chihuahua on Monday, arriving at their lovely home Tuesday evening to spend 17 wonderful days as tourists, eating, and just relaxing and enjoying their lovely home.  The temperatures were a bit cool at first, but quickly warmed up on New Years Eve Day and remained in the 70's and up to 80 the remainder of our stay.

Just a mile or so from their home, almost every time we drove down the road we saw at least one of two armadillos foraging for food right next to the road.  They were not the least bit afraid of us stopping to snap photos of them.

One day, we all piled into their vehicle and headed for Everglade City.  Along a portion of the road we traveled, an abundance of alligators laid in the water filled ditch.  We then came upon this cute little post office.  Wish we'd had something to mail from there.

We then arrived at Turner Road, better known as "Alligator Alley".  The road ran right next to a river where an amazing amount of alligators laid along the opposite bank sunning themselves and digesting their meal of the day.

We then stopped at Speedy's Airboat Tours to enjoy an airboat ride in the Everglades.

We waited just a few minutes for some of the airboats to return so we could begin our ride.  It was fascinating to see pelicans fly onto the airboats to hitch a ride.

The beautiful beginning of our ride.

A small alligator that we came upon while on the ride.  He was more afraid of us than we were of him.

Met up with friends one evening for dinner at Doc Ford's in Fort Myers Beach.

Friends Barry & Susan.

Another day, we went to The Shell Factory - a tourist's answer to souvenirs!  There was also a large exhibit of exotic animal trophies.

Another evening, we met more friends for dinner on Estero Island.

Milford, Nancy, and Michelene and Carl Kay.

Jan's son Jake, Myron and Jan.

Another day, we drove to shop a bit at the great little town of Matlache.  Oh....I loved that place!  Then had lunch in St. James City, where they cover the tables with a sheet of brown paper for the people to doodle on with crayons.  Some are then posted on the walls, ceilings, and anywhere else they can find to display them.

We hope you enjoyed viewing the marvelous time we had with our family and would love to take you to not only the areas we visited, but to so many other places of interest in Florida!
